A practical course which will help to improve your understanding of how a yacht handles under power and improve your boat handling skills in close quarters situations
The boat handling course will help you to feel more confident when manoeuvring a yacht in a tight marina or in windy conditions.
Your experienced instructor will explain the main factors that affect how a yacht handles under power and how the wind can have affect on your yacht.
You will gain a better understanding of how windage, prop walk, tide, rudder shape and prop wash effect your yacht which will help you to carry out the perfect manoeuvre.
Different ways of mooring will be exercised during the day
This course is run in a friendly and relaxed manner to help you get the most out of your time on the water.
Itinerary: Saturday 10:00 hrs step on board - Sunday @ 17:00 hrs
Course Content
- The students will watch a demonstration by the instructor covering various boat handling manoeuvres.
- Excercises and practice sessions include departing and returning to narrow berths and marinas.
- Students are also taught to navigate in open waters.
- These skills will be executed under both sail and motor power.
- The instructor will also emphasise the importance of understanding weather conditions and maintaining control of a boat in a range of circumstance.
Ability After Course
- To confidently manoeuvre a boat with engine or sail power in various locations.
- To understand and identify weather conditions and it's effect on boat handling ability.
