Joining instructions for your time on board.

Everything you need to know before your course — schedules, accommodation, prerequisites, and what to pack. Whether you're sailing with us mid-week or over a weekend, this guide will help you step on board well-prepared.

01Schedule & requirements

When to step on board.

Practical courses run as a mid-week or weekend block. Groups are kept small: a maximum of five students per instructor on all practical courses and sail training.

Mid-week
Monday 10:00 → Friday 17:30
Weekend
Saturday 10:00 → Sunday 17:30
02Accommodation & catering

Life onboard.

Accommodation

Three double cabins; sharing may be required. Solo female students will only share with another female student.

We supply fresh sheets, pillows, pillowcases and kitchen linen. Please bring your own sleeping bag and towel.

Catering

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks are all included in the course fee and provided on board.

The instructor and crew share in preparing meals and keeping the boat ship-shape — it's part of the experience.

Marina fees

Mooring, marina and harbour fees, diesel and gas are all included.

The price you book is the price you pay.

03Packing list & essentials

Pack light, pack smart.

Weather on the water can shift quickly, so pack with the season in mind — and keep it compact, as onboard storage is limited.

Colder weather

  • Waterproof jacket, fleece, hat, snood or funnel scarf, thick socks
  • Thermal long johns and vest
  • Non-jean trousers (jeans take too long to dry)
  • Layered clothing — t-shirts, shirts, fleece
  • Sailing boots, plus deck shoes or non-marking trainers
  • Cheap slippers for the marina showers

Warmer weather

  • Sunhat, sunglasses, sun cream, insect repellent
  • Shorts, t-shirts, swimwear

Always bring

  • Soft holdall (hard suitcases don't fit on board)
  • Personal medications — especially if you're prone to seasickness
  • Current ID card or passport
  • Sleeping bag, towel and toiletries
  • Phone charger
04Learning materials

Logbook and reading.

You'll need the RYA Syllabus & Logbook (G158). Bring your own, or order from bol.com or amazon.nl. To prepare further, we recommend:

  • Competent Crew Skills Handbook (CCPCN)
  • Day Skipper Practical Course Notes (DSPCN/05)
  • Day Skipper Shorebased Notes
