Online Courses.

To enable access to your online course we need to share some of your personal data with the RYA via your user profile in This learning management website is hosted and maintained by a third party called Learning Pool, who will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course. Your name and email address will be entered on in order to create your user account.

On your first access to the site, you will be asked to enter your address and date of birth. You will have access to the site for one year in order to complete your online course. During this period, your personal information will be held on the website by Learning Pool and be available to this training centre and the RYA for the purpose of managing your course. Instructional support will be provided by this training centre for a period of one year from the date of your course booking.

On completion of your course, your name, email, date of birth and address will be transferred to the RYA's central database for the purpose of recording details of the course and any certification you gain as a result of it. This information allows the RYA to record your certification, to update any records they may already hold about you or your qualifications and to verify your certificate if required. Bookings and Deposit.

The posting of a signed application to Marien Offshore Sailing School (MOSS) or a telephone booking or an email booking or an online booking followed by an acceptance letter or email or phone call from MOSS forms the basis of a contract. Bookings will only be accepted when accompanied by the appropriate deposit. The deposit for one day courses is the full course amount.

The deposit for all other courses is €100 per person (except where specifically indicated otherwise). Deposits are non refundable. Deposits for charter and delivery will be quoted at the time of booking. Full payment must be made (and cleared with our bank) by one calendar month before the course, charter or delivery start date. If full payment is not made by this date MOSS reserves the right to cancel your booking. Courses and charters booked within one month of the start date must have been paid the full fee at the time of booking.

What is Included?

Prices for Sail cruising practical courses include accommodation on board. Meals on board are included except for one evening meal, which is usually taken ashore. Mooring fees, diesel, gas, and general boat expenses are included. Personal Protective Clothing All candidates are provided with a life jacket or buoyancy aid (as appropriate) for all practical courses afloat. Waterproofs/oilskins are available for hire at €35 for a 5 day course. Footwear is not provided.

Payments by debit cards can be made at our Sail Centre. We are currently unable to accept credit cards.

Cash can be taken at our office but only in person, please do not send us cash through the post.

In the event of a cancellation by the candidate up to twenty-eight days before the start date then only the deposit shall be forfeited. In the event of a cancellation after this date the candidate shall be liable for the full fees in all cases. MOSS reserves the right to cancel any booking at any time, in the unlikely event of this happening you will be offered a full refund of your course fees. MOSS will not be liable for any other costs you have personally incurred.


We provide all the necessary coaching but as with all training courses and exams we cannot guarantee you pass. The decision of your Instructor or Assessor is final. For externally moderated exams an appeals process is in place at the RYA. Certification is included for most courses, however the following exam/licence fees apply and must be paid directly to the RYA in England MCA Coastal Skipper Exam practical GBP 195,00 payable to RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Exam practical GBP 210,00 payable to RYA The above list is a guide, MOSS is not responsible for paying your licence, membership or exam fees if something has been omitted or is incorrect.

Lost Certificates.
If you require a replacement certificate that was originated by a governing body please contact them directly. Governing bodies (RYA, MCA etc) do not hold a record of certificates issued by us.

If you have lost a certificate issued by us then replacement costs (including postage) are as follows:
- RYA Competent Crew/ Day Skipper practical:  €15,00
- RYA Coastal Skipper Practical:  €17,00
- RYA Basic Navigation:  €20,00
- RYA Dayskipper/Coastal Yachtmaster Theory:  €30,00


Candidates agree to the craft and equipment allocated to them. Craft and equipment must comply with the RYA standards. MOSS reserves the right to terminate your course at any time if behavior is unacceptable. In this instance we have no obligation to pay for any return travel costs or refund any monies paid to us. MOSS is not responsible for any loss or damage to your personal possessions whilst you are with us. A Parent or Legal Guardian must accompany anyone under the age of eighteen on any of our courses. They must also sign a consent form for all under eighteens on our courses.

Courses, Charters and Races Abroad.

While we aim to be competitive in our entire racing, MOSS skippers and instructors may pull out of any race at any time if they consider it the safest course of action.

Own Boat Tuition
For own boat tuition and delivery you must ensure your craft is fully insured and you have in- formed your insurance company that an instructor will be on board. For own boat courses the owner will remain the skipper. The instructor’s decision to stay ashore or head for a safe port is final when involving matters of safety. The owner must provide meals for the instructor as well as cover all mooring fees, fuel and general boat expenses. MOSS reserves the right to cancel an own boat tuition course at any time without refund if they, their staff or agents consider the boat to be unfit or un-seaworthy. Owners must ensure that their craft is equipped with all the appropriate equipment for safe navigation and passage. Advice can be given by MOSS to comply with the minimum requirements together with an RYA checklist.

Courses, Charters and Races Abroad
All participants must have a valid passport for the duration of the course. Candidates with a Non European passport must ensure they have valid visas for the countries to be visited.

Starting Times.

Medical and Safety.

You must be in good physical health at the start of your course (if in doubt consult your doctor) You must inform your instructor or skipper if you are taking any form of medication. For practical courses please bring double your usual dose. This means that you can carry your usual dose and your skipper can keep a reserve for emergencies. On matters of safety the decision of your instructor or skipper is final. If you are not able to swim you must inform your instructor during sign-in.

Changes to the Program.

MOSS reserves the right to make changes to the advertised program or craft if circumstances beyond our control dictate this.


In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with any part of your course or dealings with us we do need to know. In first instance tell your instructor or any member of staff immediately. If they can not resolve the problem then you are advised to contact the office and inform the Principal or Chief Instructor, their contact numbers are available from any member of staff. If the matter is still not resolved then we ask you to write to “The Director” at the companies ad- dress within one week of your course ending. Your letter will need to explain what the problem was, who you made aware of the problem, what was done or not done and what you would like done now. Please mark this letter “private and confidential”. Following this process if you still feel our response has been unsatisfactory you may of course contact the RYA or MCA or any other body you feel is appropriate to your complaint.

These Terms and Conditions apply to all Contracts for Training, Charter, Racing, Hire, Skippering, Deliveries, Consultancy, Maintenance and Sales undertaken after 1 August 2007.
