About this course

Skippering a yacht for the first time will be a most memorable experience. The RYA Day Skipper practical course is designed to teach you how to safely and confidently  "Take Charge" of the yacht.

A skipper’s task is not only to navigate. They are responsible for the complete safety and wellbeing of the yacht and it’s crew Weather forecasting, victualling, engine maintenance, sail selection and handling, passage planning, watch keeping, navigation and pilotage are all included in these responsibilities.

These skills will be taught and put into practice whilst acting as skipper on short passages.

For the duration of the course you will live aboard the yacht and visit many of the beautiful harbours and anchorages to practice pilotage techniques and the essential skills of boat handling.

You will complete at least 4 night hours sailing to experience night pilotage and identify lights.

At the end of the RYA Day Skipper course you are awarded the RYA Day Skipper practical course completion certificate and will be confident to skipper a cruising yacht on short passages by day.

At the end of the RYA Day Skipper course successful candidates will be awarded the RYA Day Skipper Completion Certificate.

Theory to the level of Day Skipper. It is recommended you attend the Day Skipper shorebased course beforehand.

During the course all evening meals, snacks and drinks are fully included unless on shore which is optional.
Accommodation

Accommodation

All yachts are fitted with three double cabins and two salon berths. Pillows and bed linen are provided.

During the course you will be staying in different harbours, all costs for mooring and harbour fees are included.

We provide free parking facilities within walking distance from the yachts.

The RYA Coastal Skipper course is included and available as an E-book or paper version.
